Binta Jalloh

Binta Jalloh is a passionate gender advocate, feminist, and fashion designer born and raised in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and a proud member of the Fula tribe. Her early education began at St. Joseph’s Primary School, followed by her secondary education at the Annie Walsh Memorial School, where her interest in leadership, advocacy, and social justice first began to take shape.

She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Gender and Development Studies at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, building on a Diploma in Gender and Development Studies from the same institution. Her academic journey reflects a deep commitment to understanding and addressing the structural challenges faced by women, girls, and marginalized communities. She also holds a Certificate in Information Communication and Technology (ICT) from the Aurora Foundation, strengthening her capacity to leverage digital tools for advocacy, communication, and development work.

Binta currently serves as the Programs Manager at Girls Alliance Incorporation, where she leads the design and implementation of programs focused on education, leadership, sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence prevention, and girls’ empowerment. In this role, she coordinates projects, develops strategies, engages stakeholders, and ensures that program objectives are effectively achieved through community-driven and sustainable approaches.

Her professional experience includes an internship with the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, where she supported public education campaigns and community workshops on human rights issues. She worked closely with local communities to promote rights awareness, justice, and equality. Earlier in her journey, she volunteered as a Presenter at a Pan-African Radio Station, using media as a powerful tool to educate and engage audiences on social, gender, and development issues.

Binta’s leadership and advocacy efforts have earned her national recognition. She served as a Youth Ambassador at the Sierra Leone National Youth Leadership Summit and was awarded the 2022/2023 Gender Department Academic Achievement Award for her outstanding academic performance. These achievements reflect her dedication, resilience, and impact as a young leader.

 

Beyond her professional and academic work, Binta identifies as a feminist and fashion designer, creatively using advocacy, media, and personal expression to challenge harmful norms and inspire change. She is known for her strong management skills, effective communication, critical thinking, and leadership abilities. Fluent in English and Krio, she engages confidently with diverse communities and stakeholders.

 

Driven by purpose and compassion, Binta Jalloh continues to work toward social justice and sustainable development, with a strong focus on advancing the rights, wellbeing, and leadership of girls and young people in Sierra Leone and beyond.
