Profile

Kadija Kanu is a Sierra Leonean by birth. From an early age, she has been driven by a strong sense of responsibility, leadership, and a desire to serve her community.

She began her education at Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood Primary School, where she was among the best-performing pupils and served as Senior School Prefect. She continued her junior secondary education at Seventh-day Adventist Secondary School (SDA), taking on leadership roles as both School Prefect and Class Prefect. These early experiences helped shape her confidence, discipline, and commitment to service.

For her senior secondary education, she attended Sierra Leone Muslim Congress. In SSS2, she was elected School Prefect, and in SSS3, she continued in this role while also serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the student government. These responsibilities strengthened her leadership skills, communication abilities, and capacity to work with diverse groups.

Beyond academics, she has actively volunteered and represented several organizations, including Save the Children, ActionAid, and Concern Worldwide. Through this involvement, she gained valuable experience in advocacy, community engagement, and supporting vulnerable populations.

After successfully completing the WASSCE, where she sat for eight subjects, she gained admission to Milton Margai Technical University and is currently studying Social Work. She has maintained strong academic performance, earning As and Bs, and is working toward graduating with a First-Class Degree. As a final-year student, she remains committed to using her education and skills to create positive change.

She is a passionate social worker with hands-on experience in advocacy and community development, with a particular focus on empowering girls and women through education, support, and social initiatives. She is highly motivated, well-organized, and an effective communicator with strong teamwork and leadership abilities.

She currently works with Girls Alliance Incorporation as a Community Outreach Officer, where she advocates for girls’ rights and gender equality, organizes and participates in community outreach programs, and provides emotional and social support to vulnerable individuals. She also supports the implementation of projects focused on education, health, and empowerment.

Through her work and studies, she has developed strong skills in advocacy and community engagement, communication and public speaking, teamwork and collaboration, leadership and outreach coordination, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and effective time management.
