As part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, Girls Alliance Incorporation (GAI), in collaboration with She-Empowerment League, Save the Children Sierra Leone, Plan International Sierra Leone, and the Youth Action Movement, successfully conducted a two-day Digital Safety Advocacy Engagement for students.

The engagement brought together young people to strengthen their understanding of responsible digital citizenship, online safety, and the prevention of technology-facilitated gender-based violence. The event was further enriched by goodwill messages from the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre, the Sierra Leone Police Headquarters, the Deputy Minister of Youth, and the Ministry of Information and Civic Engagement, all emphasizing the importance of creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive digital environment for young people in Sierra Leone.

Through interactive discussions on online consent, privacy protection, cyberbullying, digital responsibility, and safe internet practices, participants including visually impaired learners and other vulnerable groups gained practical knowledge and skills to navigate digital spaces safely and confidently.

Outcomes and Benefits

1. Increased awareness of digital safety, online rights, and responsible internet use among students.

2. Enhanced participants’ ability to recognize, prevent, and respond to cyberbullying, online exploitation, and other forms of digital violence.

 

3. Strengthened digital literacy and confidence, enabling girls and young women to make informed and safe online decisions.

4. Promoted inclusive participation by ensuring that vulnerable groups, including visually impaired learners, had equal access to digital safety education.

 

5. Encouraged girls and young women to use digital platforms as safe spaces for learning, leadership, advocacy, and personal development while protecting their privacy and well-being.
