Gender-Based Violence Awareness Outreach in Schools
Girls Alliance Incorporation (GAI) is committed to creating safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for children and young people. Through our Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness Outreach in Schools, we engage students, teachers, and school communities in meaningful discussions on preventing violence, promoting gender equality, and protecting the rights of girls and boys.
The outreach provides age-appropriate education on the forms, causes, and consequences of gender-based violence, while encouraging respect, positive relationships, and responsible behavior. Participants also learn about reporting mechanisms, available support services, and the importance of speaking out against abuse.
By empowering students with knowledge and fostering a culture of respect and accountability, GAI is helping to build safer schools and communities where every child can learn, grow, and thrive free from violence.
Vision
The vision of the School Outreach Program is to build a generation of informed, confident, and rights-aware girls who are able to make safe decisions about their bodies, resist and report abuse, and advocate for equality and dignity. Girls Alliance envisions schools as protective environments where the rights of every girl child are respected, gender-based violence is challenged, and sexual and reproductive health information is accessible to all young people.
Outcomes
The program has led to increased awareness and understanding of SRHR among students, improved knowledge of consent and healthy relationships, and greater confidence among girls to speak up against abuse and harmful practices. Schools engaged in the outreach have reported improved reporting of GBV cases, stronger peer support systems, and positive attitude changes among both girls and boys toward gender equality and respect for girl-child rights. The program also contributes to reduced stigma around menstruation and sexual health discussions within school communities.
Success Stories
Through the School Outreach Program, many girls have shared testimonies of gaining the confidence to report abuse, resist early marriage, and prioritize their education. Some students have gone on to form school-based advocacy clubs that raise awareness on SRHR and GBV, while others have become peer educators, supporting their classmates with accurate information and guidance. These stories reflect the real impact of Girls Alliance’s commitment to empowering the girl child to live free from violence, make informed choices, and claim her rights.
