COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

The Community Engagement Program aims to strengthen community understanding, support, and action on critical issues affecting girls and young women, particularly sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), gender-based violence (GBV), and the rights of the girl child. In many communities, harmful social norms, limited access to accurate information, and stigma prevent girls and families from accessing vital services, speaking openly about their rights, or preventing violence. The program was established to foster dialogue, education, and collective responsibility within households, schools, youth groups, and local leadership structures, ensuring that entire communities become allies in protecting and empowering girls.

VISION

To build inclusive, informed, and proactive communities where every girl’s health, safety, dignity, and rights are fully understood, respected, and protected.

OUTCOMES

The Community Engagement Program has increased awareness of SRHR, strengthened community responses to GBV, boosted stakeholder participation in promoting girl-child rights, reduced stigma around reproductive health services, and improved referral support for survivors and adolescents.

SUCCESS STORIES

Community volunteers formed “Protect Her Voice” committees that stopped early child marriage and kept girls in school.

Former participants now lead SRHR clubs, increasing access to youth-friendly health services.

Partnerships with local chiefs strengthened bylaws against GBV and harmful practices.
Survivors received compassionate support and referrals, showing the power of united community action.
